Playible is an NFT fantasy sports platform with no-cost contests built on NEAR Protocol. Getting started is quick and simple with three easy steps: sign up (create a wallet), mint, and play.
Here’s how to get started playing fantasy football, basketball, and baseball on Playible for free.
1. Sign Up (Create a Wallet)
To sign up for Playible’s fantasy sports platform, all you have to do is create a NEAR wallet. Go to wallet.near.org to get started.
Once you’re there, click on “Create Account” and then “Get Started.” Wallets are no longer able to be tied directly to email addresses for security reasons, so you’ll have to generate a secure passphrase or connect with a Ledger hardware wallet. After deciding which option is best for you, click “Secure My Account.”
If you chose to generate a secure passphrase, 12 random words will appear on the screen. This is your password and should never be shared with anyone. Write down these words in order and store them somewhere safe. Once you’ve done that, click continue.
To verify that you wrote down your passphrase, you’ll be asked to provide a random word from the list. Find the word on the list (you wrote it down, right?), type it in the box, and click “Verify & Complete.”
That’s it! You now have a NEAR wallet. Once you deposit NEAR to the wallet, you can create a named wallet, which is easier to read and remember than a random string of letters and numbers. Please note, this will be an entirely new wallet with a new passphrase. Do not confuse the passphrases, and make sure to transfer any assets remaining on the first wallet to the second wallet.
2. Mint a Starter Pack (or Buy on Secondary)
There are two ways to mint a Starter Pack: purchase one or claim one of your two free Soulbound Starter Packs on Playible’s official website.
But what is a Starter Pack? It’s exactly what it sounds like: a pack containing enough Athlete NFTs to build one complete lineup.
To play the game, you’ll have to mint at least one Starter Pack (Soulbound or Regular) for the sport you want to participate in.
Minting a Soulbound or Regular Starter Pack is nearly the same process. First, go to app.playible.io and click “Connect Wallet” in the top, right-hand corner of the screen. Connect to the pack minter contract when prompted. Next, navigate to the “Mint” page. Regular Starter Packs are available here for a price. To mint, select the number of Starter Packs you want to purchase, click “Mint”, and approve the transaction (you’ll need some NEAR to cover the tx fee).
If you’d rather play for free, click the “Claim Soulbound Pack” just below the “Connect Wallet” button you just used a second ago. You can claim up to two free Soulbound Starter Packs per account, and the Athlete NFTs inside these Soulbound Starter Packs can be used the same as the Athlete NFTs inside the Regular Starter Packs.
Once you’ve minted a Starter Pack, go to “My Packs” to open it. You’ll see the Starter Pack in your inventory (make sure to click “Soulbound” if you’re looking for a Soulbound Starter Pack). Click the Starter Pack, click “Open”, and then reveal each Athlete NFT one by one, or click “Reveal All.”
That’s your new team! You can bolster your team with additional Starter Packs or via the secondary marketplace on Paras or Few N Far (coming soon).
What’s a Soulbound Starter Pack and Why Is It Free?
Soulbound Starter Packs allow new players to use Playible’s platform for free. There’s just one catch: you can’t sell or trade Soulbound Athlete NFTs. These NFTs are locked to your specific wallet forever.
This allows us to combat multi-accounting and not dramatically devalue the secondary marketplace with an influx of new NFTs, all while allowing new players to play the game at no cost to them.
Athlete NFTs in Regular Starter Packs can be bought, sold, and traded on the secondary marketplace.
Soulbound Athlete NFTs and Starter Packs are marked with a lock icon and filtered on Playible’s website.
3. Play (Enter a Contest)
After creating a wallet, minting a Starter Pack, and revealing your first-ever Playible fantasy sports team, it’s time to enter a contest!
To enter a contest, navigate to “Play” and show all the “New” contests available. Each contest typically lasts one week, so keep that in mind when selecting which players to enter.
Click the contest you want to enter, read the prize pool and game details, and then click ‘Enter Game.” On this screen, you’ll see how many teams you’ve entered into this contest so far (likely zero). Click “Create Your Lineup.”
Now the real fun begins. Create your team name by clicking the “Edit Team Name” button, and save. Then, fill out all the required positions before clicking “Confirm Team.” Each position will automatically filter your available Athlete NFTs, and there is a search function if you already know which athlete you’d like to play.
Once you’ve confirmed your team, you’ll see a new lineup show up on the main game screen. Repeat this process as many times as you’d like, but remember, you can only lock one NFT into one contest at a time, and you can’t play the same player twice in the same lineup.
That’s it! Wait for the scores to populate and see if you won or lost.
